Used iPhone 15 Pro: eSIM or physical SIM?

Regional models determine the SIM tray; your carrier, travel and phone-switching habits determine what works. Check the exact used unit.

Two used iPhone 15 Pro units can handle your phone number differently. A nano-SIM tray may be convenient if you regularly move a card between phones; eSIM avoids handling the tiny card once your carrier supports it. Neither is automatically the premium choice. The right answer depends on the regional model, your carrier and how you use your number.

1. The regional model makes the difference

Apple identifies iPhone 15 Pro models by model number and SIM-tray position. The US version has no tray; versions sold in many other regions have a nano-SIM tray on the left. A generic photograph labelled “iPhone 15 Pro” cannot establish whether the particular unit for sale accepts a physical SIM.

A tray does not mean the phone cannot use eSIM. Support for multiple numbers still depends on the model, region and carrier. Check the SIM option on the specific listing and confirm the unit that will actually be delivered.

    2. Who benefits from eSIM, and what can slow you down?

eSIM can suit someone whose carrier fully supports activation and who prefers not to handle a physical card. A travel eSIM may also be useful abroad, subject to availability and pricing at the destination.

If you change phones frequently or have a company-issued number that is difficult to transfer, ask your carrier how reissuing an eSIM works, what it costs and how long it takes. Do not wait until delivery day to discover that your main number cannot be moved immediately.

      3. When a physical tray matters

People who swap a nano-SIM between devices or use a work-issued card may prefer a model with a tray. Test the tray and connectivity using a compatible SIM when you receive the phone. A tray alone does not guarantee compatibility with every carrier.

In Settings > General > About, check Carrier Lock. Apple says “No SIM restrictions” means the iPhone is unlocked. If it shows something else, only the carrier can unlock it; do not rely on a promise that someone will fix it after purchase.

        4. SIM choice does not replace a used-phone inspection

Whichever SIM option you prefer, finish activation and check Activation Lock, Battery Health, Parts and Service History, cameras, Face ID and USB-C. These checks determine whether the actual used device works; the model specification cannot answer them.

For an online order, retain the SIM option on the order confirmation and ask about returns if the delivered device is a different version. Do not submerge a used phone to test its water resistance.

          5. Select the exact SKU and confirm before delivery

On TECHBUY’s used iPhone 15 Pro page, select the storage, colour and SIM version before checking that configuration’s price. If SIM support is essential for work, ask staff to confirm the exact device model and network function before delivery.

Compare eSIM-only and tray-equipped units at similar capacity and condition. Battery health, appearance and parts history may explain more of a price difference than SIM type. The best unit is one that activates with your main number and comes with clear return terms.

            Conclusion

Decide how your phone number needs to work, then verify the exact iPhone 15 Pro version and used-unit condition. Sources: Apple’s model identification guide and Carrier Lock guidance.
