Using Samsung DeX on a used Galaxy S23: what you need

DeX can extend a phone to a larger screen, but test your monitor, cable, keyboard and essential apps before relying on it for work.

Would you like a large screen at your desk while carrying only a phone? Samsung DeX can create a desktop-style workspace from a Galaxy S23 on an external display. It can be handy for reading documents, answering mail and presenting, but it does not turn every mobile app into full desktop software. Identify your screen and tasks before buying accessories.

1. Understand what DeX actually does

DeX displays a Galaxy interface on a TV or monitor with mouse and keyboard controls. You still run phone apps; it does not install Windows or macOS. List the jobs you expect to do, such as web browsing, calls, document edits or an internal company app.

Some apps designed for small touch screens may not resize or offer the shortcuts you expect. If one app motivates your purchase, open it in DeX and test a real file instead of judging only the desktop home screen.

    2. Choose wired or wireless display connection

Samsung describes connecting through a suitable USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or DeX accessory to an HDMI display. Not every USB-C cable carries video; a charge-only lead cannot do this job. Check monitor input, adapter and any power requirement.

Wireless DeX is also available with compatible TVs or displays. It is tidy for presentations, but connection quality and latency can affect the feel. If you type and drag windows for long periods, try both methods on your own screen.

      3. Add input devices and power

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse keep a desk simple; a compatible hub may support wired devices. Check language switching, Vietnamese input and copy/paste in the apps you use. An attractive dock with too few ports or inadequate power will frustrate extended work.

Driving a large display for hours can use battery and warm the phone. If you plan long meetings or presentations, check whether your accessory can provide suitable power while showing video and keep the phone ventilated. A brief connection test cannot predict a full day of battery life.

        4. Check more than DeX on a used phone

Make sure the USB-C port feels secure and handles charging and display output steadily. If video drops when a cable moves, swap cable or adapter to rule out an accessory issue before blaming the phone. Test Bluetooth, audio output and Wi-Fi in the same session.

Also inspect the screen, battery, account status and the individual unit’s warranty terms. A working DeX session does not prove everything else is sound. Our used Galaxy S23 checklist covers receiving the phone.

          5. Choose for work beyond DeX

The used Galaxy S23 and used Galaxy S22 belong to Samsung lines that support DeX in manufacturer documentation. Configuration, condition and pricing vary by unit; test the one you plan to buy with your intended accessories.

If you need specialised desktop software or heavy multiwindow work all day, a laptop may be more suitable. DeX is strongest when mobility and reuse of your phone matter, not as a promise to replace every computer.

            Conclusion

DeX is worth trying when your tasks suit Android apps and you have a compatible display and accessories. Sources: Samsung DeX setup, compatible device list and the Galaxy S23 manual.
